THE IMPORTANCE OF DIALOGUE: AN AFTERNOON WITH CARL WILLIAMS
(Easthampton, MA) – On Sunday, December 20, 01027: A Knee Is Not Enough (AKINE) will host The Importance of Dialogue: an Afternoon with Carl Williams--a community dialogue that will continue the conversation around racism, police transformation, strategies for addressing these issues, and will reflect on the negative impact inaction has on our black and brown community.

All city officials and members of the Easthampton Police Department--including the Mayor and City Council--have been invited to engage in this important conversation.
​
This event will be a conversation with Carl Williams and the community. Mr. Williams is a movement lawyer and organizer dedicated to building and supporting liberation struggles. He has practiced criminal and civil rights law in Massachusetts for many years. Mr. Williams has been an advocate on issues advocate on issues of war, immigrant rights, LGBTQ rights, and Black and Palestinian liberation. He is a member of the National Lawyers Guild and has served as the chair of its Massachusetts board of directors. He was part of the legal defense for the Occupy Boston movement, providing legal, bail, and court support and training to the thousands of participant-organizers.

AKINE is a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and/or People of Color) led, community-based, grassroots group that was founded after Easthampton police department and public officials took a knee for eight and a half minutes to acknowledge the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police, but did not follow up with further action. We continue to demand that the city of Easthampton commits to more than symbolism on behalf of Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color in our city.

Due to Covid-19, this event will be held over Zoom December 20 at 2:30PM. This dialogue will also be livestreamed on Facebook @01027akneeisnotenough and through Easthampton Media.
